The price of ETH sunk by 6.7% so far this month, falling from its Jan. 1 high of $3,400.
Ethereum (ETH) dropped by almost 7% in January, moving in a different direction to Bitcoin and the broader crypto market.
February and March have historically been very bullish for ETH, with February only seeing a loss once (2018) in the last six years, according to CoinGlass data.
Some of ETH's February gains include a 46% rise in 2024 (from $2,280 to $3,380) and a 48% surge in 2017 (from $11 to nearly $16).
Bitcoin wallet addresses with $100 or more surged from 24 million in January of 2024 to almost 30 million in 2025.
The number of Bitcoin wallets holding at least $100 is nearing all-time highs, mirroring patterns that were seen during past bull runs in 2017, 2021, and late 2024.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs contributed to this growth a lot, with ETF holdings doubling to 1.25 million BTC by the end of 2024.
Bitcoin’s network security also reached record levels in January of 2025, as its hashrate surged to over 800 exahashes per second (EH/s). This is a 33% increase from 2024's 600 EH/s.
Brian Armstrong proposed revamping the exchange’s asset listing process to address the overwhelming growth of new tokens.
The creation of approximately 1 million new tokens weekly caused Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong to propose changes to the exchange's asset listing process.
Armstrong suggested shifting from a manual "allow list" model to a "block list" approach by using automated scans and customer reviews to evaluate tokens.
This hybrid model could streamline the listing process, promote innovation, and ensure security and compliance in the crypto space.
Ki Young Ju recently said that meme coins and the art market share similar valuation mechanisms as both rely on the power of narrative creation to increase prices.
Ju predicts the meme coin market will mature over the next five years and will avoid collapse despite challenges like rug pulls and fake tokens.
In a Jan. 26 post, Ju compared the meme coin market to the art market, and argued that both legitimize intangible value through narrative and should not be dismissed as scams.
A December CoinGecko report revealed meme coins were the leading crypto narrative of 2024, drawing more than 30% of global investor interest.
